What is a proctor?
A proctor is someone who administers a test. The proctor must be associated with some kind of educational institution, such as another college, university or local school. Work places, even if the work place itself is an educational institution, are not acceptable for proctoring due to a conflict of interest. For the same reasons, the proctor cannot be someone with a personal history with the student. The student must contact potential proctors and obtain general contact information if the proctor agrees to administer their exams.
Military Personnel can use an education center/coordinator. If this option is not available, you may use a reporting officer.
You may need a proctor if your instructor requires that you take your exams in a secure testing environment. If you live in the Greater Lansing Area you can test at the Main Campus Course Testing Center, West Campus Student Services, or the Livingston County Center. There are no appointments necessary as all centers offer testing on a walk-in basis.
If you live outside the Greater Lansing Area and would like to test off campus, then you will need to locate a proctor to administer your exam(s).
To set up a proctor, contact someone at your local educational institution. If someone is willing to proctor your exam, get his or her name, phone number and email address. Make sure to ask if the proctor charges a fee for services. Fees are the responsibility of the student.
Once you have the proctor's information please enter the information on the Proctor Request Form or contact the Testing Support Office at (517) 267-5503 and provide us with the information. We will confirm everything with your proctor choice.
If your proctor choice is accepted, we will send a confirmation to your email address letting you know everything that you will need to do. If it is not, we will contact you and advise you as to how to obtain a proctor who will work.
You must re-new your proctor every semester by contacting the Testing Support Office at (517) 267-5503. There is a proctor deadline in which your proctor needs to be set up by each semester that every student should follow.
The Testing Support Office will send you a proctor verification notification to the email address you provided on the proctor request form.
Yes. Typically, the deadline for fall and spring semesters is 8 weeks into the semester, and for summer semester, it is 4 weeks into the semester. Please Click here for semester deadline dates.
We require 7-10 business days to process a proctor request.
A proctor needs to be set up once per semester for every semester you are taking online classes. Once your proctor is verified we will send all of your online course exams to your proctor. Proctor requests must be submitted by the posted deadline.
