Medical Assistant

Curriculum Code: 0248 (Effective Fall 2000 - Summer 2001)
Program prepares a person to assist the physician in patient care management.
The role of the medical assistant is administrative and clinical. Duties
include admitting patients, appointment scheduling, telephone and written
communication, managing the patient records, obtaining patient histories, and
assisting the physician in office procedures. Medical assistants work in
clinics, medical offices, medical centers, medical insurance companies and
various other health-related industries. The medical assistant may become
certified through a national exam offered by the American Association of
Medical Assistants.
This is a selective admission program. In order to be considered as a
candidate for this program, students must meet basic admission requirements
beyond those required for admission to the college. Many of the courses for
this program are open only to students officially admitted to the Medical
Assistant Program.
