Heavy Equipment Operator

Curriculum Code: 1028 (Effective Summer 2002 - Summer 2007)
A heavy equipment operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation
of a variety of equipment used at construction and road building sites. To be
successful the operator should be able to operate all types of equipment. He/she
must be able to inspect and operate the equipment in a manner that ensures
compliance with applicable safety regulations. Additionally the operator must be
able to read surveyor stakes, perform minor repairs, complete math calculations
and reports, and be sufficiently knowledgeable about soil types to ensure that
completed work will meet intended expectations. An operator must have good eye-
hand coordination and must be able to work with a minimum of supervision.
Attention to detail and a sense of responsibility are required.
