This certificate of
achievement provides the essential values, knowledge, and skills
to promote client and community well-being. Additional courses
teach to the quality and consistency that is relevant to the
human service profession. This certificate is the second level
in a series to enhance the career pathway into human services. A
supervised consecutive two-semester practicum is required.
Courses are aligned with the Council for Standards in Human
Service Education and their Community Support Skills Standards (www.cshse.org).
The course work is designed to meet the educational ethics
component for certification as a Certified Addiction Counselor
Level-I (CAC-I) from the Michigan Certification Board for
Addiction Professionals (MCAP),
www.mcbap.org.

Students must meet with a Human Services Program advisor prior
to or during their first semester to complete an educational
plan and secure arrangements for field work experience
(practicum). Practicum application packets are available from
the Health and Human Service Careers Department, Gannon
Vocational-Technical Center, Room 1750 beginning in January.
Applications are due back to the same office by April 1st
for admission into the fall semester practicum. |

HUSE 112 and HUSE 242 must be completed prior to field work
experience (practicum). Students pursuing an education in
addictions must select HUSE 112 from the ?LIMITED CHOICE
REQUIREMENTS?. |

This class is a Gerontology seminar. A maximum total of 3
credits of GERO seminars may be used to satisfy CHOICE 1
requirements. |

Numeric graded GERO, HUSE, and SOWK courses must be completed
with a minimum grade of 2.5 or higher to be counted toward the
certificate of achievement. GERO seminars listed in CHOICE 1 are
graded on a pass/fail (credit/no credit) basis. |

departments plan to offer courses. Students who for any reason
are unable to follow the course sequence suggested below (for
example, those who are part-time, have transferred in courses
from another school, or have prerequisites to fulfill) should
contact an academic advisor or counselor for help with
adjustments. |
