Lesson 3: Guidelines for Developing Program-Level Outcomes
Stark and Lattuca adapted the following list of guidelines for program outcomes from the American Dental Schools Association, and include them in their book, Shaping the College Curriculum.
- "[Program outcomes] should be relevant to the mission of the institution and should not conflict with its overall direction.
- [Program outcomes] should reflect the current philosophy and actions of the department, program or school within the institution. They should exhibit the consensus view and avoid statements reflecting the view of a few individuals.
- [Program outcomes] should be written clearly and simply. Writers should avoid complex statements of multiple outcomes, avoid jargon, and avoid complicated phrasing.
- Whenever possible, goals should be stated in measurable terms." (p. 290)
