
Emergency Management and Safety Services
Lansing Community College Emergency Management and Safety Services Department
is responsible for safety and emergency preparedness skills and
procedures
for the college as well as training faculty and staff in these skills and
procedures. EMSS is also responsible for maintaining a safe environment on the
campuses of Lansing Community College and ensuring the college complies with
federal and state safety regulations. EMSS is responsible for safety
inspections, operating and maintaining fire alarm and suppression systems,
operating and maintaining emergency alert systems, and overseeing the training
of volunteer employee emergency response teams, which augment campus police
during an emergency.
In addition to campus safety, EMSS oversees the lock core and key making
operation. EMSS is also responsible for Lansing Community College fleet
management, which includes the operation and maintenance of over 70 college
vehicles. Fleet management involves scheduling approximately one thousand
academic, athletic, and college related field trips every year of which EMSS
provides professional drivers within its staff for these trips. ![]()
LCC Emergency Procedures Manual
The EMSS team consists of a director, a safety/police officer, a part-time safety officer, several support staff including one full time employee and five part-time employees.
The information contained in this document is intended to provide students and employees at Lansing Community College with a better understanding of measures that can be taken to encourage a safer campus environment. This manual includes basic guidelines to follow when faced with various emergencies.
Fleet Operations
To reserve a college vehicle (car, van or bus) you must complete a vehicle request which can be found at the main Starport page under the 'FAMIS Work Request' tab. For proper consideration your request must be submitted a minimum of two full business days in advance of your requested departure date.
