Distinguished Alumni Award Winner Vicki LH. Myers
Vicki L.H. Myers began her college education at Lansing Community College, earning an Associate Degree in Business and later graduating from the Lansing Community College Police Academy. Vicki then earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Northwood University and her Master's Degree in Public Administration from Western Michigan University, graduating with honors.
Vicki began her professional career with Ingham County in 1987 when she was hired as an animal control officer. She was then hired by the Ingham County Sheriff's Office in 1988, where she quickly rose through the ranks. At the time of her promotion to Chief Deputy in 1996, she was the only female to achieve this rank at Ingham County and was one of the highest ranking females among Sheriff Offices throughout the state. In 1999 Vicki graduated from the FBI National Academy.
Vicki has been an active member in the community, serving on the United Way Committee and as the Chair of the Board of the Mason Area United Way. She was also a member of the Zonta Club of East Lansing, serving in numerous positions including President, the Central Michigan Law Enforcement Association, and the Michigan State University Downtown Coaches Club. Vicki is presently involved with the Area 8 Special Olympics.
Vicki is currently Commander at the Mesa Police Department in Arizona, where she is the highest ranking law enforcement female.
During her career, Vicki has been a pioneer for women in a field once thought to be a "man's world." When asked why she continued to work as a police officer, given some of the obstacles women have faced, she said, "It's simple, I love this job!"
