Student Library Advisory Board (SLAB)

Have a voice and help create your Library! Join the Student Library Advisory Board to help shape the future of LCC Library services.

Who Can Join?

SLAB membership is open to all current LCC students.

What Is The Time Commitment?

Board members can expect to spend 4-10 hours per semester attending board meetings and working on board activities.

What Does the Board Do?

The vision of the Library Student Advisory Board is to establish a dialog between LCC students and the Library to ensure we are meeting the needs and expectations of students.

Board activities are determined by the board and include:

  • Suggesting new library services and resources.
  • Organizing contests for student participation.
  • Generating ideas for library events and programming.
  • Discussing improvements to the physical library space (e.g. furnishings, layout, etc.).
  • Discussing improvements to service delivery.
  • Creating or suggesting new art for the Library.
  • Participating in library events and activities.
  • Participating in and conducting library surveys.
  • Participating in website usability testing.

2013-2014 Accomplishments

Developed a prioritized list of uses for the Library Program Fund and acted on the top two priorities:

  • Planned Peak Weeks support events for students
  • Expanded textbook lending for CORE courses

Identified issues and concerns with existing Library technology and services, resulting in:

  • Faster computer boot up times.
  • More computers on the third floor of the Library
  • Printing on the third floor of the Library
