Lansing Village Initiative/NorthWest Initiatives
Description: The NorthWest Initiative is a 501(c)(3)
non-profit organization working to strengthen and sustain healthy communities in
Lansing's 'grand neighborhoods' - the City area bounded by the Grand River on
the north, east, and south. The Ingham County Health Department and the City of
Lansing sponsors the Initiative. Program partners include residents,
neighborhood organizations, local nonprofit organizations, human service
agencies, and units of Michigan State University.

SCORE
Description: Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) is
a FREE function of the Small Business Administration comprised of volunteer,
retired business executives who share their management and technical expertise
with small business owners. All the consultants are comfortable with the
Business Plan. They utilize several software planning products with their
clients.
The Mid-Michigan Branch is located in the offices of the Lansing Regional
Chamber of Commerce. It is housed in the "BIZ Resource Center", a facility
established in cooperation with the Small Business Technology Development
Center, Lansing Community College, the Chamber of Commerce, and SCORE. The
center has offices for SCORE's Counselors, reference materials, and 4 networked
computers with High Speed Internet Access. The use of these resources for our
clients is at no charge.

Tri-County Office on Aging
Description: Tri-County Office on Aging (TCOA) is the Area
Agency on Aging for Region VI serving Clinton, Eaton and Ingham counties. It's
mission is to "promote and preserve the independence and dignity of the aging

Area Agencies on Aging Association of Michigan (AAAAM)
Description: Coordinates the Michigan Senior Advocates
Council. Provides advocacy on behalf of senior citizens concerning pending or
proposed legislation. Publishes newsletter Aging Alert monthly, September-June,
on state and federal legislation affecting the elderly.

Michigan Office of Services to the Aging
Description: The Michigan Office of Services to the Aging
(OSA), located within the Michigan Department of Community Health, is the state
administrative agency for services to the elderly. OSA's mission is to "promote
independence through advocacy, leadership and innovation in policies, programs
and services." This state agency administers federal and state funding for local
programs that offer a variety of services for older adults such as meals, legal
aid, transportation, health promotion, household chores, personal care and adult
day care. OSA also advises the state legislature and governor on issues and
policies important to older Michiganians. It does not provide direct services to
senior citizens. Those telephoning this agency for assistance on local services
may expect to be referred to the appropriate Area Agency on Aging.

Greater Lansing National Caucus on Black Aged (NCBA)
Description: The goal of the NCBA is to enhance the
well-being of older adults, especially minorities. The Chapter is a multi-racial
membership organization devoted to improving the daily existence and economic
status of older persons. Activities include outreach efforts, guest speakers and
fundraisers.

Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)
Description: RSVP provides adults 55 and older an
opportunity to use their skill, knowledge, interests and experiences. Volunteer
assignments are designed to help fill the needs of the local community.
Volunteers are matched to their interests and will be provided with training if
they wish to learn new skills. If funding is available mileage reimbursement is
provided.
