Intense concentration for LEGO Robotics enthusiasts. Find out everything the Mindstorms equipment and programming options can do to make your robot almost "human". The instructor will cover the requirements and skills needed for statewide LEGO competitions. Improve your competency and programming abilities while working in a group competition environment to promote team building skills and project management.

Comic Book Illustration

Students will learn how to develop their very own comic book-style character in this class! Learn how to draw your character repeatedly in a variety of action poses, positions, and expressions, draw backgrounds, learn and apply panel-to-panel story transitions, add text and dialogue to panels, and finally, finish one page of continuous panel-to-panel artwork.

This course provides an introduction to the techniques of microbiology and the field of public health. Students will take environmental samples, grow cultures, and use microscopes to examine micro-organisms, including household pests. Students will also study food preservation techniques and test the ability of antibiotics to stop the growth of bacteria.

Robotics & Rocketry

This hands-on class is a blast! You will start by learning about robotics, electrical circuits, and components. You will learn to take apart old electrical equipment to scavenge parts for your own small robots - you can even bring in your own machines from home that no longer work or aren't needed. Finally, working on your own or with a partner, you will design and build a small robot that is able to perform a unique task. Then your adventure in rocketry begins as you study principles of lift-off and flight. You will put your abilities to the test as you create and launch several rockets - with the guidance and oversight of the course instructor. Along the way, you will develop and use your skills in math, science, and problem-solving.

Perhaps you have always wanted to shoot sporting events, or breaking news stories, or perhaps you would prefer covering functions that feature famous people! Then, this is the class for you! You will learn how to get up-close and personal with your camera as well as how to compose that photo through the viewfinder. Did you know that photojournalists have rules they MUST follow? The class will be taught by a former reporter and Associated Press photojournalist!

We have all heard of stealing hearts, winning hearts or having a broken heart, but how much do we really know about the human heart within our bodies? Students will experience an in-depth study of the workings of the heart; the chambers, arteries, veins, blood components and flow, and much more. The instructor will lead a dissection of an animal heart. Students will be able to understand and participate in a virtual heart transplant by the end of class. Caution: This class may not be suitable for those students easily upset by the sight of blood or organ material.
