Inaugural Early College Class Starts with Welcome Week
LANSING 8/25/11 – The inaugural class of
The Early College at Lansing Community
College (LCC) starts their school year with this week’s welcome
activities. The Early College provides mid-Michigan high school students the
opportunity to earn up to two years of college credit as part of their high
school learning experience. Students will learn within a small learning
community while attending classes all day on LCC’s campus.
The Early College program is for high school
juniors who want to earn direct college credits up to an associate’s degree
or a technical certification in a Science, Technology, Engineering or
Mathematics (STEM) related field.
The Early College at LCC is a three year program, which means
students will remain on LCC’s campus for grades 11-13 taking high school and
college courses. A total of 90 seats were available and all 12 public school
districts in the Ingham ISD service area were part of this endeavor to
provide additional learning opportunities to students.
“The Early College provides students with a chance to advance their career
interests by becoming prepared to make a seamless transition to the rigorous
academic tradition of Lansing Community College and to be advocates for
their own learning,” states Kristine Grunwald, J.D., Director of The Early
College. “We are very excited to welcome this first class of students to
campus as they begin this 3-year journey,” Grunwald also noted.
Parents will be provided with an orientation session on Friday, August 26.
They will also receive a tour of the facilities and be provided an
opportunity to meet the staff of instructors who will be teaching their
children. For information about The Early College visit
