LCC to Participate in National Money Smart Week ®
FREE Financial Education Events, Games scheduled for Students and Community
April 16, 2015
Lansing, MICH - As part of National Money Smart Week, Lansing Community College (LCC) will educate students and community members on topics ranging from saving for college and managing student loan debt, to budgeting and retirement.
"Young adults today are more likely to enter into considerable debt than previous generations," said LCC President, Dr. Brent Knight. "Educating our students about money management is essential for building habits that ensure a financially stable future."
One event that LCC will offer during Money Smart Week-- GeoCache for College Cash, is a digital scavenger hunt using smartphone technology. Students will snap a QR code on seven financial education posters and answer questions to gain points. Each student that participates will have an opportunity to win a $1,000 Scholarship to LCC from the College, a $1,000 scholarship to LCC from the Money Smart Week organization, or an iPad from Michigan Education Trust.
Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign that promotes financial education. Launched in 2002 by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, the program is now active in more than 45 states through national partnerships with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) Cooperative Extension, and the American Library Association.
"Money Smart Week began as a coordinated effort among a small group of Chicago-area organizations working to promote financial literacy," says Alejo Torres, senior outreach manager at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. "Today, Money Smart Week continues to expand nationally, providing greater awareness of, and access to, personal finance resources for all."
The GeoCache for College Cash event at LCC will be held in the Gannon Building, Room 244, on April 21 from 1-3 p.m. For more information, please contact Derik Redding at email@example.com. To learn more about Money Smart Week, visit moneysmartweek.org.
