Services and Accommodations

Office of Disability Support Services (ODSS) will determine appropriate accommodations through our intake process. This process consists of an interactive interview with the student, review of supporting evidence which includes a diagnosis and functional limitations, and the approval of accommodations.

Supporting evidence of each disability should be provided by corresponding professional.

ODSS reserves the right to request additional or updated documentation.  This may be necessary to determine the current level of functioning as it relates to accommodation requests. All documentation must be on letterhead of the signing professional.

Lansing Community College does not provide diagnostic testing; however, community referral information is available for students. www.lcc.edu/odss/resources.aspx

It should be noted that documentation policies differ from one institution to another. Office of Disability documentation policies are designed to fit Lansing Community College. If a student plans to attend another institution he/she should investigate documentation policies at that institution.

Examples of Appropriate Documentation

  • Recommendations of a qualified professional familiar with the student, the disability and need for accommodation
  • Results of psycho-educational or other professional evaluations
  • Past history of diagnosis and treatments
  • Documents detailing participation in a special education program in which academic adjustments, auxiliary aids or services were used.
  • Observations/assessment by educators
  • Recent history of accommodations
