Grand Ave Lane Reduction, Memorial Day Parade, and more

Wednesday, May 23rd
Grand Avenue will see a slight lane reduction between 6:30am to 3pm in the block north of Shiawassee Street along the side of the Riverfront Park. This lane reduction is provided in order to accommodate an event by the Volunteers of America.

Saturday, May 26th
The following street and lane closures will be in effect in order to accommodate the Annual Memorial Day Parade.

The Parade is scheduled to step off at 10:00 a.m. from the State Parking Lots on Allegan Street. The Parade will travel east on Allegan Street to Capitol Avenue, north on Capitol Avenue to Ottawa Street then travel west on Ottawa Street to return to the State Parking Lots.

The below scheduled times and locations are estimated and may vary.
Street closures will be in effect between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

  • Allegan Street between ML King Jr. Boulevard and Pine Street.
    Streets to have LANE RESTRICTIONS between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
  • Capitol Avenue between Shiawassee Street and Ionia Street,
  • Walnut Street between Kalamazoo Street and Washtenaw Street,
  • Pine Street between Shiawassee Street and Ionia Street.
    Streets closures will be in effect between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
  • Allegan Street between Pine Street and Capitol Avenue,
  • Walnut Street between Washtenaw Street and Ottawa Street,
  • Ottawa Street between Washington Square and Butler Boulevard,
  • Capitol Avenue between Ionia Street and Allegan Street,
  • Pine Street between Ionia Street and Allegan Street.

Local access to businesses will be maintained during this event.

If access within the parade route is needed there will be Lansing Police Department (LPD) personnel and/or LPD authorized personnel located at the intersections to help guide motorist safely to their destinations with minimal delays. If you would like to contact LPD please call at 483-4667.

Saginaw Bridge ReconstructionSaginaw Bridge Reconstruction

  • Work includes changing the five-lane roadway to four lanes between Washington Avenue and North Cedar Street, widening sidewalks on both sides of the street from 5 feet to 8 feet.
  • The City of Lansing's River Trail will be widened from 7 feet to 10 feet, headroom will be improved
    under the bridge, and the path will be raised above the Grand River to minimize closures due to flooding.

Suggested Detours to the Gannon Parking Ramp

Consider using LCC Lot F, located on Lapeer Street, or LCC Lot U, directly behind the University Center, located on Seymour and Genesee streets. You may access these lots via Shiawassee Street from any of the below alternative routes to LCC's Downtown Campus.  

These directions are provided to give students, staff, and the public an alternate route to taking Saginaw Street and to avoid the construction.

From the west using W. Saginaw Street:

  • East on Saginaw Street to Pine Street(The light with Quality Dairy and Speedway at the corner), turn right onto Pine Street, take Pine Street to Shiawassee Street which is the first light, turn left onto Shiawassee Street, take Shiawassee Street to Grand Avenue, turn left onto Grand Avenue

From the west using W. Michigan Avenue:

  • East on Michigan Avenue to Verlinden Street, turn left onto Verlinden Street, take Verlinden Street to Shiawassee Street, turn right onto Shiawassee Street, take Shiawassee Street to Grand Avenue, turn left onto Grand Avenue
  • East on Michigan Avenue to Jenison Street, turn left onto Jenison Street, take Jenison Street to Shiawassee Street, take Shiawassee Street to Grand Avenue, turn left onto Grand Avenue

From the south using Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard:

  • North on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Shiawassee Street, turn right onto Shiawassee Street, take Shiawassee Street to Grand Avenue, turn left onto Grand Avenue
  • North on MLK to Kalamazoo Ave, Kalamazoo to Grand Ave
  • North on MLK to Main St, right on Main to Grand Ave, Left on Grand Ave

From the south using Cedar Street/Larch Street:

  • North on Larch Street to Shiawassee Street, turn left onto Shiawassee Street, take Shiawassee Street to Grand Avenue, turn right onto Grand Avenue
  • North on Larch Street to Michigan Avenue left on Michigan Avenue, right on Grand Avenue

From the East using E. Michigan Avenue:

  • West on E. Michigan Avenue to Grand Avenue, turn right onto Grand Avenue

From the East using E. Oakland Street:

  • West on Oakland Street to Cedar Street, turn left onto Cedar Street, take Cedar Street to Shiawassee Street, turn right onto Shiawassee Street, take Shiawassee Street to Grand Avenue, turn right onto Grand Avenue
  • West on Oakland Street to Capital Avenue, or Seymour street, Seymour street to Shiawassee Street

From the north using N. Cedar Street:

  • South on Cedar Street to Shiawassee Street, turn right onto Shiawassee Street, take Shiawassee Street to Grand Avenue, turn right onto Grand Avenue

From the north using Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard:

  • South on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Shiawassee Street, turn left onto Shiawassee Street, take Shiawassee Street to Grand Avenue, turn left onto Grand Avenue 

When leaving the Downtown Campus consider these alternate routes:

From the Gannon Parking Ramp:

Grand Avenue Exit:

  • Exit the parking ramp onto Grand Avenue, take Grand Avenue to Schoolcraft Street, turn left onto Schoolcraft Street, once on Schoolcraft Street follow directions below

Schoolcraft Street Exit:

  • Exit onto Schoolcraft Street, take Schoolcraft Street to Capitol Avenue, turn left onto Capitol Avenue
  • East bound and north bound traffic turn left onto Shiawassee Street, proceed to Larch Street (north bound), turn left onto Larch Street
  • East bound and south bound traffic turn left onto Shiawassee Street, proceed to Cedar Street (south bound), turn right onto Cedar Street
  • East bound traffic turn left onto Michigan Avenue
  • West bound and north bound traffic turn right onto Shiawassee Street, proceed to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (north bound), turn right onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, take Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Oakland Street (west bound), turn left onto Oakland Street
  • West bound and south bound traffic turn right onto Shiawassee Street, proceed to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (south bound), turn left onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard
  • East bound traffic turn left onto Michigan Avenue

Due to traffic delays, you should plan to arrive in the vicinity of the Downtown Campus 15 to 30 minutes early

Plan to park at LCC's Lot U, Lot F, the City of Lansing N. Capitol Parking Ramp, or on-street parking meters


LCC Campus Shuttle Service Update

Lansing Community College will not have a shuttle between the Main Campus and West Campus.

  • Attention: You must use your StarCard at ALL times when entering or exiting college paid parking areas, even if the gate arms are raised or broken. If you fail to do so, your StarCard will be confiscated by the card reader!
  • TAKE CARE OF YOUR STARCARD! Lost, stolen or damaged StarCards are subject to a replacement fee of $15.
  • Remember! You can add monetary value to your StarCard by using a personal check or credit/debit card at the Parking and ID Services, Room 215.1 during our current office hours.
