International Student Coordinator

The International Student Coordinator will support international students by providing information and assistance concerning their academic and personal success at Lansing Community College. For example, this support would include:

  • Transitioning and adjusting to American culture and the Lansing Community College campus environment
  • Identifying local community resources e.g. housing, transportation systems, community agencies, etc.
  • Facilitating such things as academic referrals/assistance, advising related issues, counseling services, and student-life involvement
  • Clarification and/or explanation of compliance issues and referral to the appropriate school official such as a Designated School Official or someone in the Student Services Division

Janet Tower, LCC's International Student Services Coordinator since April of 2012, has been in the education field since 1980. She earned her BA degree in English and Sociology from Central Michigan University and was awarded a Masters in Humanities from the same institution. She has taught in Michigan at various levels, from junior high to college-level classes and also taught internationally in Kuwait. For the past six years, Janet has been teaching at schools in Kosovo, most recently at the American University of Kosovo where she was an English and Communications instructor and coordinated the Academic Support Center services. Janet is also a founding member of International Progressive Education, an educational non-profit organization, dedicated to providing educational opportunities for Kosovar youth.
